Chinese Foreign Minister visits India

If Wang Yi visits India, it will be the first visit by a senior Chinese leader in two years. Two years ago, a deadly clash between the two countries' forces took place in the Galway Valley of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The two countries are holding dialogue at the military level to resolve the situation.

Earlier this month, Wang Yi said that bilateral relations between China and India have been "somewhat negative" in recent years. He called for an end to the border dispute through sincere dialogue between the two countries to reach a "transparent and equitable" agreement. Pointing to the United States, the Chinese foreign minister said some powers wanted to escalate tensions between China and India.

Responding to a question on border disputes and relations between the two countries, he said, "In recent years, bilateral relations between China and India have been somewhat negative, which has not served the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples."

Wang Yi is also China's state councilor. He said China and India should be "partners rather than adversaries".

Tensions between the two countries' armies began in eastern Ladakh on May 5, 2020. Later, on 15 June, at least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in clashes. Although initially avoided, China later claimed its own military casualties.

Since the incident, the two countries have deployed troops and military equipment along the border and increased infrastructure construction. Relations deteriorated further when India imposed trade restrictions and banned Chinese apps.

It is expected that 'The Chinese Foreign Minister will visit India in March to try to improve relations.
